Equity and Diversity Statement

As a human services organization continuously seeking to deliver community impact and maintain quality service to our donors and clients, the United Way of Cattaraugus County places high value on the concepts of diversity, equity and inclusion. It is at the very heart of our message to “Live United.”

We value the uniqueness of the individual, the power of the collective good and the importance of communities. We promote a climate that welcomes, understands and respects the diversity of our clients, donors, staff, volunteers, agencies and community partners. Dimensions of diversity include but are not limited to race, ethnicity, cultural orientation, national origin, language, religious belief, disability, gender and age.

We also recognize that we all do not have the same opportunities – barriers and advantages do exist. Equity is a process to address these imbalances, and ensures that everyone has the same access to opportunities. We place a priority on support for vulnerable populations with our investments and our partnerships. We believe everyone should have the opportunity to live a healthy and safe life.

We are committed to incorporating practices that enhance diversity and promote equity in all areas, including the recruitment and retention of staff and volunteers from diverse backgrounds. Staff and volunteers are supported through training to address equity, and the needs of all individuals and communities served.

The Board of Directors and senior management team will provide leadership and collaborate with clients, donors, staff, volunteers, agencies and community partners to an environment that values diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Adopted by the Board of Directors July 14, 2020.
