United Way Invests Over $197,000 to Help Our Neighbors Thrive

The United Way of Cattaraugus & Allegany Counties is proud to announce the award of $197,375 in community grants for 2025. These funds will support 37 local programs that address critical needs and help our neighbors thrive, especially in the areas of youth opportunity, health, financial security, and community resiliency.

Grants were awarded through a community-driven process involving volunteers from both counties, who reviewed applications and prioritized programs with a strong local impact.

Investing in Allegany County: $99,250 to Strengthen Families and Build Resiliency

Nineteen programs received funding in Allegany County this year, with a strong emphasis on food access, child care, health services, and youth development:

  • Emergency Services & Basic Needs: Funding for the American Red Cross, Salvation Army, Catholic Charities, and ACCORD helps ensure Allegany County families have access to food and shelter when they need it most.

  • Youth & Child Care Support: Grants to Trinity Christian Daycare, YMCA, Fillmore Powerhouse, and the Cuba Library provide vital support for working families, including child care scholarships, tutoring, and summer learning.

  • Health & Independence: Investments in programs from HomeCare & Hospice, Allegany County Senior Foundation, Allegany County Blind Association, and Allegany County Mental Health support residents across the lifespan—from end-of-life care and senior nutrition to mental health and wellness education.

  • Opportunities for Growth: Funding for Southern Tier Traveling Teachers, Scouting, Houghton RFKC, and more supports youth and adults in gaining skills, confidence, and lifelong connections.

Supporting Cattaraugus County: $98,125 to Promote Stability and Opportunity

In Cattaraugus County, 18 programs received support, offering services that directly impact families, youth, and seniors throughout the region:

  • Fighting Hunger & Homelessness: Grants to FeedMore WNY, Genesis House, The Warming House, Catholic Charities, and The Salvation Army help ensure food and shelter are available to those in crisis.

  • Investing in Youth: Programs such as Big Brothers Big Sisters, Bona Buddies, Girl Scouts, Scouting America, Special Olympics, and Kids ROC provide mentorship, recreation, and developmental support for local children and teens.

  • Family & Health Resources: Support for EPIC's family engagement program, HomeCare & Hospice, Interfaith Caregivers, and CBA Vision Rehabilitation helps parents, caregivers, and individuals of all ages access crucial services.

  • Affordability & Access: YMCA child care scholarships and utility shutoff assistance are part of United Way’s ongoing efforts to reduce barriers and improve economic stability for ALICE households—those who are Asset Limited, Income Constrained, but Employed.
