The first annual Allegany County Tri-College Classic baseball tournament was held Oct. 3, 2026, at Alfred State College with proceeds benefiting United Way of Cattaraugus & Allegany Counties (UWCAC).

The three higher education institutions in Allegany County participated, including Alfred State College, Alfred University, and Houghton University.

“We were so thrilled to host the first annual Allegany Tri College Classic, and grateful for Houghton and Alfred to participate,” said Mike Armstrong, head coach, Alfred State. “A big thanks to Tom Kenney, former Houghton and Alfred State baseball coach, for helping pull all of us together for a wonderful cause. We wanted to host an event for the county and that benefitted the county.”

Each team sold tickets to raise funds for the United Way. While the cost of admission to the games was free, the coaches wanted their players and members of the larger community to feel a sense of investment in the day.

“As an Allegany County native who loves baseball, this day was absolutely fantastic,” said Brian Reitnour, head coach, Houghton University. “Coach Kenney and everyone from Alfred State did a fantastic job putting together a day that was fun, competitive, and ultimately served a greater purpose. I’m looking forward to many more fall classics to come.”

“It was a beautiful day for us to get out on the field to compete against our neighbors and support United Way,” said Brian Kehew, head coach, Alfred University. “We had a lot of fun with the inaugural Allegany Tri College Classic and we look forward to making this an annual tradition.”

“We’re so grateful to these baseball programs for coming together to support the Allegany County area through our United Way,” said Susan McAuley, UWCAC executive director. “Our area is uniquely blessed to have three higher learning institutions that are so plugged into the community, and ready to give back.”
