Kids in Sports Fall Event Slated
Youth will try out a variety of sports during Kids in Sports, a United Way event giving local girls and boys ages 9-12 an opportunity to explore new sports and activities.
Kids in Sports, a new, free sports sampling event for boys and girls ages 9-12, is set to take place from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 3, 2026, at St. Bonaventure University.
No sports experience is necessary, and all skill levels are welcome. This event will provide kids the opportunity to try out a range of sports such as basketball, soccer, lacrosse, rugby, and more.
Kids will enjoy free breakfast and a swag bag, meet St. Bonaventure student-athletes, and participate in activities designed to foster teamwork, confidence, and physical fitness.
Registration, available at www.uwcac.org/kidsinsports, is due Sept. 25.
The event, organized by United Way of Cattaraugus & Allegany Counties and St. Bonaventure University, aims to inspire boys and girls to explore various sports while promoting health, fitness, and life skills through physical activity.
“We’re excited to invite students from across Cattaraugus and Allegany counties to join us for this new, fun event, where both girls and boys will sample sports with D1 student-athletes,” Sue McAuley, UWCAC executive director, said.
“Taking part in a sport creates opportunities. It’s about so much more than physical activity – sports build essential life skills like teamwork, leadership, and resilience. All of our kids deserve a chance to try new sports,” said McAuley.
“St. Bonaventure is proud to partner with United Way to welcome young people from across our region to campus for a morning that’s all about trying something new, having fun and discovering what they’re capable of,” said Donovan Moffat, St. Bonaventure Assistant Athletic Director for Academic Support & Student Development. “Our student-athletes understand how meaningful sports can be in a young person’s life, and they’re excited to share that experience and encourage the next generation.”
Cattaraugus and Allegany county schools are encouraged to participate and take advantage of this unique opportunity to engage their students in sports.
The United Way of Cattaraugus & Allegany Counties is proud to support this initiative as part of its ongoing efforts to promote health and personal development among young people in the community.
