Western New York Girls in Sports Fall Event Slated
The Western New York Girls in Sports program, a free sports sampling event for girls ages 9-12, is set to take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 4, 2025, at St. Bonaventure University.
No sports experience is necessary, and all skill levels are welcome. This event will provide girls with the opportunity to try out a range of sports such as basketball, tennis, golf, volleyball and more.
Girls will enjoy free lunch, a T-shirt and swag bag, meet St. Bonaventure student-athletes, and participate in activities designed to foster teamwork, confidence, and physical fitness.
Registration, available at www.uwcac.org/girlsinsports, is due Sept. 24.
The event, organized by United Way of Cattaraugus & Allegany Counties and St. Bonaventure University, aims to inspire young girls to explore various sports while promoting health, fitness, and life skills through physical activity.
“We’re excited to invite girls from across Cattaraugus and Allegany counties to join us again for this fun event,” Sue McAuley, UWCAC Executive Director, said. “Taking part in a sport creates opportunities.”
“It’s about so much more than physical activity – sports build essential life skills like teamwork, leadership, and resilience. We want our area’s girls to realize their potential.”
“We're looking forward to hosting this event and providing opportunities for our local girls to come to campus and interact with our athletes,” Alexis Watson, SBU Sr. Associate Athletic Director for Athletic Administration, said. “Whether they're furthering a passion or trying something new, we're excited to welcome them!"
Cattaraugus and Allegany county schools are encouraged to participate and take advantage of this unique opportunity to engage their students in sports.
The United Way of Cattaraugus & Allegany Counties is proud to support this initiative as part of its ongoing efforts to promote health and personal development among young people in the community.
